MERL Tech

MERL Tech is a community, a conference, and a term that is used to describe technology-enabled Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL).

The MERL Tech community has been active since 2014 and has been working with the humanitarian and development sectors to:

  • Strengthen organizational and sector-level skills, knowledge, and capacities in the areas of digitally enabled monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL);
  • Improve MERL of digitally enabled programming; and
  • Advocate for ethical innovation and responsible use and management of technology and digital data.

They do this by conducting research on and for the sector; engaging organizations and networks in capacity strengthening, learning, and sharing events; hosting and pursuing in-depth conversations within MERL and related fields; helping to position majority world perspectives at the forefront of the space; and working to redistribute access to opportunities and resources.

In January 2022, the MERL Tech launched its new website which now includes three main tabs: news, events (MERL Tech conferences and events organized by others), and resources. It links out to the MERL Center (a partnership with GitHub’s Tech for Social Good team) where you’ll find some great resources related to MERL and Open Source.
